Beach Hazards Statement issued July 27 at 10:09AM EDT until July 29 at 8:00AM EDT by NWS Northern Indiana * WHAT...Life-threatening waves and currents expected. - High wave action: Waves 3 to 4 feet Tuesday morning, increasing to 6 to 8 feet Tuesday afternoon and evening. - Life threatening rip, longshore, and structural currents are expected. Structural currents may be especially strong on the north sides of piers or breakwalls Tuesday afternoon and evening. * WHERE...In Indiana, Northern La Porte county. In Michigan, Northern Berrien and Southern Berrien counties. * WHEN...From late tonight through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water and high waves can sweep people off piers. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions. Do not venture out on piers.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 27 at 2:47PM EDT until July 27 at 3:00PM EDT by NWS Northern Indiana At 247 PM EDT/147 PM CDT/, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Shorewood-Tower Hill to near Westville, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Michigan City, La Porte, Westville, Trail Creek, Walkerton, North Liberty, New Buffalo, New Carlisle, Three Oaks, Kingsford Heights, Long Beach, Pottawattamie Park, Shorewood-Tower Hill, Shorewood-Tower Hills-Harbert, Dayton, Galien, Michiana Shores, Grand Beach, Kingsbury, and Michiana. This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 38 and 66. Interstate 94 in Indiana between mile markers 34 and 45. Interstate 94 in Michigan between mile markers 0 and 11. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
